Bible Seminar: Has the Bible Changed?

The BPK Penabur School Library hosted an exciting and enthusiastic Bible seminar on April 24, 2025. The event, which started at 19.00 WIB, managed to attract the attention of 111 participants who actively discussed and enriched their knowledge about the Bible.

One of the interesting topics discussed in this seminar was the title of the passage given by the Indonesian Bible Society (LAI). Through the explanation given, participants understood that the addition of the title of the passage aims to help readers grasp the context of Bible verses more easily. This effort reflects LAI's commitment to making the Bible easier to understand for the wider community.

The discussion deepened when participants highlighted the translation of the words "great ocean" and "universal ocean" in the Book of Genesis. This discussion emphasized that the process of translating the Bible is not a simple job, but requires serious and in-depth study.

In the process, LAI does not only rely on one manuscript. They work together in a team consisting of experts and researchers, and network with international Bible institutions. This collaboration allows for the creation of a translation that is accurate, relevant, and easy to understand for today's readers.

The seminar was closed with a warm and quite intense Q&A session. The moderator even reminded the participants to remember the time. "If you keep asking, what time are we going to end up at?" he joked, which was greeted with laughter by all the participants. At that time, it was approaching 21.00 WIB.

In addition to increasing insight, this seminar also succeeded in creating a pleasant interactive atmosphere. Rev. Kukuh Aji, M.Sc., Teol., who acted as the moderator, succeeded in enlivening the discussion and making the participants feel actively involved.

Towards the end of the event, Rev. Anwar Tjen, Ph.D., delivered a profound message about how complex the process of translating holy books is. According to him, this process requires struggle, dedication, and a very long time. Every decision in translation takes into account many aspects, including the readiness of the congregation to accept and understand the meaning of the text being conveyed.

The event was closed with a group photo session and the distribution of door prizes to several lucky participants. The warm atmosphere and the spirit of togetherness became a sweet ending to a meaningful evening.
