The experience of being shunned, mocked, and shunned by others is probably one of the unpleasant experiences that people often experience. These actions illustrate the process of isolating someone and considering them different. This discomfort invites someone to respond appropriately according to His wisdom. This experience was apparently also felt by Job. In contrast to chapter 29 which contains good descriptions of what happened in Job's past life, now Job has to experience very heavy suffering. He complains in his suffering. The main source of Job's suffering is the mockery or ridicule of the people around him. If previously Job remembered his role in the welfare of many people, now these people are described as mocking and intimidating Job. Verse 11 states, For my bowstring has been untied and he has humbled me." An expression to emphasize that Job felt that God had weakened him, so that people did not restrain themselves against him; they hurt Job as they pleased because there were no more prohibitions accompanied by punishment.
The description of Job's persecution and oppression continues in verses 12-14, now what he experienced is compared to the situation of a city that was attacked and finally captured by the enemy. "A mob appeared at my right hand," referring to a dangerous mob. They tried to bring Job down. Everything disappeared at once. He did not feel God showing all the goodness, as well as the support of the people around him. Job felt so troubled. He expressed his troubles in a sentence that was so heartbreaking, therefore my soul is crushed within me; days of misery grip me." He had cried out for help, but God seemed not to answer. However, Job continued to wait for that help even though there were times when he felt that God ignored his cry.
Life is a mystery that sometimes only requires one thing from us, namely the courage to live it. Life becomes so hard, as Job describes. Past glories can be lost in an instant. Those who gave support become accusers and tormentors. Job had friends who once supported him, but when his suffering came they turned to judgment. So in all the difficulties of life we can only walk in faith in God's help and presence. Even though sometimes it feels like He is ignoring our call. But keep walking in that faith. God never once leaves us.
