Conceit is one of the traits that is the beginning of the fall of man. It skillfully masks the human heart and desires. It wraps them up so neatly that they appear as natural self-esteem and validation. Unfortunately, pride also often collaborates with our appreciation of faith. Spiritual pride is born, which also leads to our downfall.
In this reading we are invited to realize our existence before God. He reminds man of his fragility. The recognition of his limitations makes man realize that there is a God who is far beyond all things. We are invited to be content with our existence. Pride, especially wrapped up in spiritual things, makes us so tired of desires that only lead us to self-deception.
The acknowledgment of self-limitation or humility is liberating for the believer. The psalmist uses the image of God's love as a mother in the process of weaning, in a situation that releases the child from the mother's milk. The process is hard but necessary so that the child eats other foods needed for growth, which is the process of maturity. Just as the process of weaning makes a baby cry and uncomfortable who finds comfort in his mother's arms, sometimes that is the process of maturing our faith. Maybe at certain points it feels so uncomfortable, but we can feel the peace and tranquility of trusting God's unchanging love. Our relationship with God is driven by trust and complete dependence on Him.
Friends of the Bible, a good relationship with God and others is the most important thing in living in this world. Both cannot be done in all our pride and arrogance. Let's learn to depend fully on God, to surrender ourselves completely to God, by recognizing all our limitations. Confess with full awareness if in the course of our lives, we often fall into pride, including spiritual pride.
