In the cool summer air of Mongolia, I had the rare opportunity to represent the KWI Youth Commission at the Asia Pacific Catholic Bible Affinity Meeting, which took place on July 22nd & 24th, 2025 at the Cathedral Church, Ulaanbaatar. The meeting was organized by a collaboration between the Mongolia United Bible Society - led by Br. Bayarmagnai, and the Apostolic Prefecture of Mongolia - led by Cardinal Giorgio Morengo. A total of 45 participants from various countries such as Malaysia, Myanmar, Pakistan, Vietnam, and the Philippines attended with the same spirit: proclaiming the Word of God in the context of Asia Pacific.
During the three days, we not only participated in presentations and discussions, but also experienced the hospitality and warmth of our hosts. We visited the Apostolic Prefecture office and the local Bible Society, and attended an ecumenical service that opened our hearts to the importance of Christian unity across denominations.
In my presentation session, I shared about the Identity Identified Movement, a structured Indonesian Catholic youth discipleship initiative that uses books and digital platforms. I invited the participants to see that in a fast-paced and digitized world, the Word of God is still able to touch the hearts of young people if it is delivered in a relevant way. The response of the participants? Incredibly positive and full of enthusiasm!
What made the biggest impression on me was the warm atmosphere of brotherhood in the midst of differences. In a predominantly non-Christian country, the spirit of evangelization was so strong and hopeful. Indeed, as St. John Paul II said: "Do not be afraid. Open wide the doors for Christ!" ” — this encounter was a reminder that we are not alone. There are many warriors for Christ in different parts of the world, working in the same Spirit.
I return to Indonesia with a new spirit: to build more spaces for dialog and collaboration in Asia Pacific, especially for evangelization among young people. Let us continue to make them strong and militant disciples of Christ, because the world is waiting for the light of the young generation of the Church.
