The Kodi tribe, is one of the indigenous tribes of Sumba, where they live scattered around West Sumba and Southwest Sumba. For a long time they have longed for the word of God to be present in the Kodi language, a language that they understand and is close to their hearts. Responding to the needs of God's people there, the Indonesian Bible Institute (LAI) in collaboration with local churches organized the Translation of the New Testament (NT) in the Kodi language.
The translation of the NT into the Kodi language is the first of its kind.
The translation of the NT into Kodi language in Southwest Sumba (SBD) district has started since 2021. This week (May 13-18), a 7-member team with a translation coach from LAI is examining the manuscript. The examination is going well. We have completed the proofreading of the Gospel of John (from chapters 11 to 21), and have begun the proofreading of the Acts of the Apostles.
Thus, until May, we have completed the proofreading of the Gospel of John.
Thus, until May 2024, the NT texts that have been examined with LAI are: Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, and Acts (about 10 chapters). Please note that all the NT manuscripts have been translated. The two translators (who are elderly) have been working at an unusual pace. The examination of the manuscripts this time took place at the Sumba Christian Church (GKS) Panenggo Ede congregation. Praise God, the pastor and the congregation were very supportive of our work."
