Ghana Bible Society Organises Worship for the Visually Disabled

On Sunday, 29 March 2026 the Bible Society of Ghana (BSG) in collaboration with Glory Baptist Church and the School for the Blind in Wa, Ghana, organised a special service for people with visual impairments. The event was a tangible manifestation of BSG's vision for the Bible to be available to all people.

During the service, members of the blind community took the lead role: they led prayer, directed praise and worship, and delivered the sermon. Their leadership and service enriched the worship experience while challenging long-held assumptions about disability. It demonstrates that every believer has gifts, dignity, and a calling from God.

The sermon of the day was delivered by Rev Enoch Abubakari Salif, a pastor and teacher who is also visually impaired. With the theme "Jesus Sees You" taken from John 12:14 & 15. Just as Jesus saw the donkey tied to the tree and needed it, so too He sees and values each individual. Such is Pastor Enoch's affirmation. Based on his own life experience, Pastor Enoch shared that the life of a blind person is not easy. However, he responded to the love of Christ that strengthened and enabled him to pursue higher education, build a career, and support his family. His testimony is strong evidence that disability does not determine or limit the purpose of life that God has given.

In addition to worship, this activity is also a means of advocacy and education for people with visual disabilities. BSG staff member Samuel Adjei Ntow shared the challenges faced by people with visual disabilities, including stigma and social exclusion. Samuel urged the church to go beyond awareness and empathy to concrete actions, such as creating employment opportunities, providing needed support, and intentionally recognising the contributions of people with disabilities.

The commitment was tangibly realised through the distribution of 65 Braille Bibles and other Christian literature to the Wa School for the Blind. In addition, a set of Audio Bibles was also handed over, opening up greater access for students to interact with God's Word. These resources are not just tools, but means that ensure that the Word of God is no longer out of reach, but is present and speaks clearly and personally into the lives of its recipients. This includes the visually impaired.

In late 2025, BSG also launched the Asante Twi language Bible in Braille format for the first time. This is the first complete Braille Bible in one of Ghana's regional languages, and the second Braille Bible available in Ghana after the English edition.

The impact of this service was felt by the host church. Pastor Emmanuel Akabore, Head Pastor of Glory Baptist Church, expressed deep gratitude and emphasised the importance of initiatives like this. He encouraged this kind of inclusive worship to be held regularly, even offering his church as an open place for fellowship, togetherness, and corporate worship.

This meeting at Wa reminds us that biblical ministry will flourish when barriers to access are removed. For marginalised groups, such as the visually impaired, access to Scripture and engagement in worship affirms their identity, belonging, and purpose in Christ.

Through the ministry of the Bible Society of Ghana (BSG) and other Bible Societies, God's word is alive and at work. It encourages, it comforts, it inspires. And it is there that we see the true beauty of the gospel: a good news that truly exists for all people.
