Amidst the onslaught of social media, internet algorithms and the hustle and bustle of modern life, being a parent today feels far more challenging than for any previous generation. Many parents feel overwhelmed by the task of nurturing their children’s communication skills and faith at home. Recognising these everyday concerns, the Indonesian Bible Society (LAI) has launched a new guide to coincide with National Children’s Day on 23 July 2026. Held at the Bible Centre Building (GPA), LAI officially launched the New Translation Parenting Bible, 2nd Edition (TB2)—a work intended not merely as a text to be read, but as a companion for dialogue and a practical guide for every family in guiding their children amidst the challenges of our times.
In his opening prayer and introduction to the event, Rev. Dr Ir Yoel Indrasmoro emphasised the importance of reaffirming God’s love for children through this launch.
“Love children, protect them, and build their future…. In fact, what we wish to do now is to reaffirm that Jesus loves all children. The Bible is not just for adults," said Rev. Dr Ir Yoel Indrasmoro.
The General Secretary of LAI, Dr Sigit Triyono, also emphasised that the Bible is the primary solution to the crisis in parenting and the unrest within families. Quoting Proverbs 29:17, he emphasised the importance of raising children based on the Word of God.
“Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it… Fathers, Mothers and Brothers and Sisters, believe that the only solution is the Bible," stated Dr Sigit Triyono.
Collaboration and a Multidisciplinary Approach
This second edition of the Parenting Bible contains 74 thematic articles designed for intergenerational reading and discussion at home. The Writing Team Coordinator, Ruth Setiadji Kadarmanto, MPd.K., explains that the main focus of this edition lies in strengthening children’s relationships within the family, at school, in church, and in the digital world. Each article includes a Bible passage, Christian values, conversation prompts, shared activities, and a family prayer.
"The strongest foundation for faith lies in the experience of everyday relationships that enable children to learn to trust their parents, themselves, and the world," said Ruth Setiadji Kadarmanto.
From a psychological perspective, Jovita Maria Ferliana, M.Psi., explains the importance of parents taking a proactive approach by reaching out, embracing and listening to their children without judgement. In her view, parents have a duty to facilitate their children’s development in accordance with their divine potential.
"Parenting is not about moulding children to suit our own desires, but about accompanying them as they grow into the individuals God has designed them to be," explains Jovita Maria Ferliana.
The launch ceremony was officiated by the Chairperson of the LAI, Rev. Dr Henriette Tabita Hutabarat-Lebang, M.A., together with the LAI executive committee and representatives from the Christian Ministry, the PGI, and biblical institutions. It is hoped that this TB2 Parenting Bible will serve as a tool to strengthen relationships and guide families in Indonesia towards peace and the growth of a firm faith. (per)
