This morning, Saturday 15 August 2026, Indonesia has once again received tragic news. A tectonic earthquake measuring M7.7 struck the East Nusa Tenggara region.
The effects of the earthquake were felt by almost everyone in the cities of Ende, Borong and Ruteng.
According to information from the relevant authorities, the earthquake, which occurred at a depth of 15 km, was centred in the sea 30 km north-east of Nagekeo (8.41° S; 121.39° E) and caused damage in several areas. To date, according to Antara, five fatalities have been recorded, all from Maumere (Sikka Regency) and Manggarai Regency.
At this time, we invite all Friends of the Bible to turn their thoughts and hearts towards our brothers and sisters in East Nusa Tenggara. Undoubtedly, this disaster has brought grief, loss, and the hardships they must face there.
Let us unite our hearts in prayer. We pray for:
1. Strength and comfort for the bereaved families, and safety for all those affected.
2. The emergency services, volunteers and all the authorities who are working to provide the best possible assistance on the ground.
3. Resilience for our beloved homeland, Indonesia.
Friends of the Bible, amidst the uncertainties of our natural world and the dynamics of this world, let us continue to live out our calling to one another, to be a light and a source of hope, by sharing Christ’s love through genuine care and prayer.
“The Lord is close to the broken-hearted, and He saves those whose spirits are crushed.” – Psalm 34:19
May the Lord’s love and presence always shelter our brothers and sisters in East Nusa Tenggara.
