Human beings are often misfocused in living their lives. Our life just becomes something mechanical or just goes on without any particular purpose that is bigger than ourselves. Even if there is, the goal is only about material things whose center is ourselves. Whereas as His creation, the sole focus of life should be directed towards Him alone. All our breath, work, and life should be centered on Allah, the Creator of the universe.
This is what the psalmist expresses in our reading this time. He expresses this faith in terms of joyful expression of peace and trust in the midst of life's challenges. God has the power to justify man, meaning that God declares us innocent against any accusation or slander, which is the context of Psalm chapter four. The psalmist felt the crush and accusations that pressed upon him.
We can see this in verses 3-6. Those who have power are constantly pressing him. People doubted his claims and his existence. But what's interesting is that the situation didn't faze him because he had experienced God's steadfast love. He suffered, but had a deep inner joy and peace. He begged to be released from his present suffering, but he left it all to the steadfast love of God. Perhaps if he had chosen to focus on himself or the problems surrounding him, that true peace would never have settled in his heart. It was precisely because the psalmist focused and directed his life on God's steadfast love that he felt peace and hope even in adversity.
Friends of the Bible, today we may also be experiencing various challenges and struggles that crush us. God's Word today reminds us that no matter what happens our focus is on God the Deliverer. It is in that focus that we are enabled to face all things well with His peace and guidance.
