What is the most precious thing in life? Many people look for it in wealth and power, not infrequently in full and complete relationships within the family. All of this is fine as long as it is within reasonable limits. But today we are to be taught that the happiness of life also lies in the wisdom and discernment to choose the right path according to and in accordance with His will.
In Proverbs 8:1-21, wisdom places its teachings as something to be held and treated like choice gold. Those who are discerning and knowledgeable will recognise that the wisdom teacher's teachings are more valuable than anything else and will therefore be accepted with ease. Her first teaching was the fear of the Lord. It goes beyond the boundaries of dogmatics/teaching but manifests in a clear and unequivocal moral attitude of hating evil, pride, arrogance, evil behaviour, and a deceitful mouth (v. 13). Thus, there is no place for hypocrisy in the teaching of wisdom. People who strive to appear good even through religious rituals, but whose hearts and behaviours do not reflect goodness at all.
Then humanity is invited to come to the wisdom of God. In wisdom there is counsel, judgement, understanding, and strength. These are the means by which one can realise wisdom in ruling and adjudicating. Righteousness is a sign of one's submission to God's wisdom.
Bible friends, the life we live is full of various trials and temptations. So to deal with it requires wisdom and wisdom that comes from God Himself. Let us walk in God's wisdom where knowledge, wisdom, and determination to hate evil, pride, and evil behaviour lie. It is not easy, but in the process of walking with God, we will always be strengthened.
