Human beings have an intellect that allows them to make various thoughts and plans for their lives. But often we are under the illusion that we can control and master everything. Whereas in reality there are things that we cannot control and master completely. So let everyone humble themselves and submit to the One who is in control of all plans.
Our passage today begins with a snapshot of reality. God thwarted and negated the plans of the nations. The people were daunted by the great nations around them who were so powerful that they could overpower Israel at any time, but the psalmist reminds them that only God's plans and will will be done. Blessed, then, are those who put their trust in God.
For those who recognize and submit to God's omnipotence, He is like a father who looks lovingly upon his children. From His dwelling place, He looks upon all the inhabitants of the earth. In His power, the Lord understands all the hearts and deeds of His children.
This is the psalmist's invitation to all of us believers of all times, "The eyes of the LORD are upon those who fear him" (verse 18). We can have all sorts of plans and thoughts for our future, but we must remember to do these things in the fear of him. God's power and will alone will be realized in the world. So live in gratitude and surrender to Him. All the plans for our lives are already in His hands.
