The human mind and memory are very strong. We can remember memorable events that happened in the past. Sometimes these memories even manifest into certain responses that are present in the present. But what if in the process we remember the mistakes and sins we have committed in the past? There might be a sense of shame. It would feel like, if we could go back in time, we would want to change those mistakes that we have made.
In our reading, the psalmist also reflects on the sins he has committed in the past. He wonders if God is really willing to forgive his past sins. How unfortunate and wretched it would be if He would not forgive our sins and transgressions. It was with this realization that the psalmist begged God for forgiveness. He realized and admitted that in his youth, his life was full of transgressions and sins.
Now the psalmist wanted to rise above the mistakes of the past. He wants to rely on God to show him the right way. His plea is simply to live a life based on God's righteousness. God's guidance is sure to happen if everyone is willing to walk humbly and is willing to be discipled by Him.
Friends of the Bible, everyone has their own past. Even those times are often filled with mistakes and sins. The best thing we can do is to confess our past mistakes and sins, ask for God's forgiveness and strive to live a better life according to His ways. This life choice will make us feel peaceful, especially because God has a merciful and loving disposition.
