The life we live is actually always in the guidance and embrace of God alone. Unfortunately, in our limitations and pride, we often forget Him in our life steps. The psalmist's cry in chapter 25 is a reminder to humans who forget God in His life. He echoes the regret of sin and the exaltation of God who is the only truth and source of life.
The psalmist reiterates his plea for God to forgive the iniquities of his people. He invites us all to look into our own lives, which are often riddled with sin. It is in holiness and righteousness that we can finally come to Him. It is fitting that we fear and honor Him. Fearing God shows responsibility for the life He has given us. Honoring His commandments and doing what He wants wholeheartedly. To such people, happiness will remain in them and will even continue to persist in their children and grandchildren (vv. 12-13). Those who fear Him are like building a close and intimate relationship like a pair of friends.
Our existence should always be directed towards Him because God is the only creator and master of life. Even the hardships that we experience because of our problems can be overcome by Him. The psalmist invites us to keep our eyes on Him and ask for help to be freed from all the distress we are experiencing. One of the psalmist's most moving cries in this passage is found in verse 20, "Keep my soul and deliver me; do not let me be put to shame, for I take refuge in you." Isn't that the cry of those of us who cling to God? For God to always guard and protect us from all the currents of life that occur.
Friends of the Bible, let us return our gaze and our whole being only to Him. Let us not forget God who is the sole reason for our existence and the source of true help. Only in Him is there the right way and deliver us from the crushing burden of life that is often so suffocating. May God help and strengthen us always.
