Many of us have probably been disappointed by someone we know or love breaking their promise. Today, Christian families are destroyed because a husband or wife breaks their marriage vows. Perhaps that is also what we are struggling with today. Hearts are shattered and broken because we feel betrayed by others. Thankfully, at this time we are reminded of the Creator who never fails His promises.
Our reading begins with a belief in God's steadfast love. The psalmist is confident in what he has witnessed and what has been told to him by the patriarchs of Israel. This confidence is expressed by the psalmist's willingness to recount God's love and goodness for generations. This was because of the covenant established between the patriarchs and God. Forever Israel would be the people of the Lord, and the Lord would be God over Israel.
God's promises and faithfulness unfold throughout the ages through various difficulties and challenges. Even when the Kingdom of Israel was in ruins, what God promised was not unrealized. He remains faithful to His promises and will continue to care for Israel. The psalmist describes God's steadfast love that cannot be compared to anyone else, even if there are other gods among the clouds, none can match God. His dominion will be established forever and overcome the fierce sea, the seemingly powerful nation, the heavens, and the universe.
Recognition of God's faithfulness to His promises makes us stand firm again in the stormy waters of life that we may be experiencing today. Do not be discouraged and feel that the world has ended when we experience various disappointments from others and even betrayal. God is a person who will never leave us. He keeps His promise of faithfulness to His people as long as we firmly hold and live the covenant with Him.
