His faithfulness is the basis of our worship

What is it that keeps us worshiping and worshipping Him? The question seems simple, but it actually reveals the most fundamental thing about our life of faith. Whether we realize it or not, religious people are often trapped in a transactional relationship with God. We worship, do spiritual disciplines, and obey His word, only to get what we ask Him in return. When what we ask for does not materialize, there is a reluctance to worship Him. Our worship or devotion to God should be based on awe and faith in His love and deeds. He has revealed His justice and goodness throughout the ages, even when life is often not good.

The psalmist invites God's people throughout the ages to see the faithfulness, as well as the justice, of God. It is the foundation on which the entire world's existence rests. A happy nation is one that responds to God's love with songs of joy. They are a people who know how to praise and worship God properly. Praise and worship are born from the Source of Joy itself, God. The light of God's face accompanies the people who know how to worship God properly. The metaphor shows God's favor to a nation that is close to and knows to worship Him properly.

The strength of nations comes from God alone. Whereas nations are praised for their kings, Israel is praised for God. Even Israel's king David was recognized as belonging to God. Affirming a holy covenant relationship between God and the king.

Then let us live our lives grounded in the remembrance of His steadfast love and grounded in the true worship of God. An act born out of the realization of God's omnipotence, obedience, and justice, not because we want something from Him. God alone owns the universe. Everything happens according to His wisdom that guides all believers, even kings.
