A prosperous life and a long life may be something that everyone aspires for. Every effort is made to achieve this goal. Look at how people are so keen on exercising and maintaining their diet. Apparently there is something else that needs to be considered in living a prosperous life, namely one's mental and spiritual condition. As advised in the book of Proverbs at this time.
Our reading places Wisdom as a father advising his son. He directs his son to live according to the wisdom of God. Through gentle invitation, the advice is given. He says, "Do not forget my teaching, and let your heart keep my commandments." Apparently understanding, recognizing, and walking in God's wisdom is not just about cognitive ability but a heart that seeks to recognize His will.
In addition, our reading affirms that a wise man is one who allows God's steadfast love and truth to shape his relationships with others. That is why wisdom leads to honor and reputation. Not because of himself but because of his submission to God. Wealth and honor will follow not as goals pursued by man, but as a result of living in the wisdom, intelligence, and ways of the Lord. The culmination of this advice is when Wisdom says, “Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding.”
Thank God that today we are reminded that living in God's wisdom is the only right choice in navigating the uncertainties of life. A safe and peaceful life is achieved not in the passionate desire to pursue it, but lies in surrendering to God's guidance and wisdom. However, do not make the mistake of thinking that all challenges and struggles will disappear along with the process. Struggles may remain, but they are used by God to teach and chasten those He loves.
