It is said that a wise man once said that evil exists because good people choose to be silent. If reflected upon carefully, isn't that often the case in our lives. In times that are not easy, people choose to keep themselves safe. It's not wrong, it's even very logical. But if that logical choice comes at the expense of cries for help from neighbors and ignoring crimes or injustices that occur before our eyes, shouldn't we question it again.
Our reading this time opens with a very striking statement, "Do not withhold good from those who deserve it, when you are able to do it." Proverbs 3:27-28 is not talking about those who are wicked and evil by nature, but rather it is addressing the good people who choose to remain silent and delay their help. Wisdom continues its honest advice while highlighting a phenomenon that humans often face. The anxiety of seeing evil and despotic people getting good things in this world. He firmly said not to envy those who are despotic and not to be tempted to choose their path. Even though their lives look good and comfortable, they are an abomination to God. A very strong expression is expressed in our reading. In the end, we are told to choose between two paths: the path of wisdom that manifests itself in goodness and honor or ignorance that leads to negligence and evil.
Friends of the Bible, let us live wisely which is shown through the right attitude and response to others. Wisdom is not only living with the knowledge of what is good but also a life that is directed towards the daily realization of virtue. So submit to His wisdom and discretion. Help those who come to us for help. Live in kindness to others in our daily lives.
