Sometimes we must be honest in facing reality. In this world, not everyone uses their freedom to make good and right choices—that is, choices that are moral, grounded in truth, and in accordance with their conscience. In fact, more people choose to live with a shallow mindset and show no concern for their fellow human beings or other creatures. In terminology often used in the Bible, including the prophecies of the Prophet Isaiah, these two groups are described as the righteous and the wicked. 

The righteous are those who direct their lives solely toward God. They walk in God’s ways, so that “their path is straight.” A straight path means that everything they do bears good fruit and becomes a blessing. They bring light to their neighbors and their land. Only goodness follows in their footsteps. Meanwhile, Isaiah also highlights the existence of the wicked. They are those who walk as they please and disregard God’s decrees. The Prophet hopes that these wicked people will soon face the consequences they deserve—in other words, justice from God Himself. They do not need to be pitied, for such pity would only prevent them from learning how to act righteously.

Dear Friends in Christ, the world is indeed in the midst of a severe crisis. However, may we remain steadfast in walking the path that God has shown us. Living a righteous and moral life as a fruit of obedience to God is the choice we should always make. Isn’t life too simple if it is used only to satisfy the desires of the flesh? May His Spirit always guide us to live in wisdom and truth.
