A popular spiritual song says that the ways of God are the ways that are unfathomable to the limitations of the human heart and mind. Isn't that often the case in our experience of relating to Him? It takes perseverance and deep reflection to be able to explore God's will and upbringing for us. However, that is part of the life of faith, which is to find meaning and upbringing in relationship with God, the Owner of Life. In the end, it is not we who find Him, but God who reveals Himself and desires to be recognised and greeted with earnestness.
The Word of God that we read this time also reveals a similar dimension. Having previously proclaimed His favour and judgement, God invites His people to listen to Him carefully. While justice and love seem to be polar opposites, is there a lesson to be learnt from these two processes? God answers this by proposing a metaphor of a farmer tilling his land.
Isn't it true that the farmer doesn't always work his land. Sometimes he pauses and lets his crops grow. However, the end goal is clearly for the plant to grow in abundance. This is how God is with man. He teaches, loves, and educates us even though sometimes we can't understand it doesn't mean God stops teaching and educating His children.
May we also be given the wisdom to recognise His will. Seeing everything as part of God's way of loving and educating us. This way we stay on the right path, the path that He wants us to be on.
