When we watch a film, the main characters—or the heroes of the story—are usually portrayed as handsome, dashing and utterly perfect. It is completely unimaginable that a character who is the exact opposite could be the main protagonist of the story. Perhaps this was the saviour initially envisaged by the people of Judah in exile, but it turns out that God’s will differs from human expectations. He surely has a purpose for all His actions.                 

Therefore, when Isaiah prophesied, it never crossed his mind that the Servant of the Lord would in fact be humiliated and tortured. Indeed, the Servant of the Lord is described as a figure of wretched appearance. A portrayal of a liberator far removed from the image of a hero who would free a nation. Nevertheless, the kings of many nations were left astonished by these events. Not merely because of the figure of the liberator, but because of God who was present and at work behind it all. This reaffirms that God’s work is often completely beyond our expectations. 

Dear Friends of the Bible, today we are learning about the vastness of God’s work, which is far beyond our imagination. So let us make as much room as possible in our hearts to recognise His works. Live always in hope, for God is a faithful God who is ever-present to guide us at all times.
