Imagine we are in a state of despair. Then, at a certain point, moments arise that determine everything. Deliverance comes and transforms everything that has happened. This is also illustrated by the fate of Judah in today’s reading. This chapter begins with a call to wake up immediately and regain strength. It is as though someone who was previously weak, listless and helpless is being roused. The one who has just come to his senses is commanded by Him to put on garments of honour. Prepare for an event that brings such joy. 

After that, God calls upon Jerusalem to prepare as well. The city is commanded to shake off the dust. It is as though Jerusalem’s very existence has been restored. Once a ruined city, stripped of all value after its defeat by Babylon, its dignity now seems to have been restored by God. This refers to the process of restoration and the return of the people of Judah to their homeland. What is even more remarkable is that all these extraordinary acts performed by God are apparently nothing but an expression of His mercy. A salvation based on the Lord’s mercy. Whilst other nations exploited Judah for their own gain, God showed mercy to them and bestowed His grace. 

Ultimately, Judah will soon emerge from these dark times, and God will demonstrate His sovereignty. He Himself will go before them and lead the people home to their own land. Do not be afraid, for God is now in control of everything. 

Dear Bible Friends, this is also what God will do in every difficulty and struggle we face in our lives. God goes before us to clear the way. He protects us from all harm. So stay alert and be ready at all times. We do not know when the time of deliverance will come. May we be ready to welcome Him the moment His help arrives.
