The Light of Love from the Mahakam to the Heart

The lights in the hall dimmed gradually. They were replaced by a warm yellow glow that enveloped the entire room. That evening, hundreds of pairs of eyes were present, all sharing the same longing. They wished to be an extension of God’s people in the remote areas of Mahakam Hulu and West Kutai, who longed for the presence of the Bible in their homes. From the very start, the atmosphere felt very intimate, like a loving gathering of a large family.

A Captivating and Meaningful Opening

The event was opened in a grand yet solemn manner by the graceful movements of traditional dancers. They performed the Busak Baku Dance. The graceful hand movements symbolised the blossoming of the flower of brotherhood, welcoming every guest with the warmth characteristic of Kalimantan. Following this, the sound of music began to fill the air through a performance by violin and ensemble. The beautifully performed classical music left the entire room spellbound in a serene silence.

Symphony of Tolerance and the Voice of the Sky

A delightful surprise came when the kolintang music group took to the stage. Among the performers were two Muslim women wearing hijabs, who played the wooden bars with great passion. The harmony created that evening was not merely about music, but a beautiful, real-life portrait of interfaith harmony and tolerance in Indonesia.

The atmosphere became even more heart-wrenching when a young solo singer stepped up to the microphone. Her clear and innocent voice sang a hymn of praise, causing several guests to wipe away tears of emotion. The highlight was the appearance of the visually impaired singer Grezia Epiphania, which stirred the emotions of everyone in the room. Her physical limitations did not prevent her from singing with great power. Every note that came from her lips seemed to carry the message that the Word of God must reach the ends of the earth.

Pouring Out Blessings as the Night Draws to a Close

At the end of the event, the commitment and donation boxes began to circulate amongst the attendees. With joy, many people vied to offer their best support. This fundraising evening concluded not with a formal farewell, but with warm conversations whilst enjoying the meal. An evening that proved that the distance to Mahakam Hulu and West Kutai is no longer great when our hearts are united by love.
