All humans have fallen into sin. It is not uncommon for these sins to occur repeatedly because of our limitations as humans. Unfortunately, not everyone is able to be honest with themselves and admit all their mistakes and sins. It is like living with falsehood and building lies against oneself. Therefore, every believer is invited to humbly come to God and confess all his faults and sins.
The psalmist in chapter 32 expresses that tension well. In the past he chose to "keep silent", evading and avoiding the call to declare his sin honestly to God. In that silence he no longer had strength, his bones became sluggish. But when his sins were made known to God and his faults honestly confessed, God immediately lifted the burden of his sins. The psalmist joyfully invites all the people to praise God for this fact, always remembering that the blessed are those whose transgressions are forgiven and whose sins are covered.
The psalmist immediately draws a conclusion to his experience, "Let every godly man pray to you." "Draw near to God with self-honesty and a willingness to confess all wrongs and sins to Him. After that, the psalmist echoes the teaching he received from God in verses 8-9 which emphasizes that God wants to teach and show the way to His people. Submit to His ways and His teaching, not like a mindless horse or mule.
Friends of the Bible, God's words today are very encouraging but at the same time rebuke us very warmly. There is no point in hardening our hearts and hiding our sins from Him. Such actions will burden us even more. When we are willing to confess our faults and sins, there is deliverance and liberation. It may be difficult to begin that confession, but rest assured that as we humble ourselves before God and are willing to be molded by Him, there will come great joy beyond anything else.
