A leader should realize that on his shoulders are the hopes and prayers of the people he leads. It should be realized by a good leader. That realization does not give birth to a burden but a sense of responsibility to be able to carry out his leadership not for the sake of personal fame but for the good and welfare of as many people as possible. Isn't that also our prayer for the leaders of the nation or the leaders in our respective workplaces?"
Psalm 45 reveals a verse that seems to be directed at the king's wedding ceremony. However, in the first half of the chapter we can see a praise paean describing the ideal image of a leader (King). The psalmist describes the king as beautiful and modest. However, the king is also a strong warrior. He has the courage to be able to defend his kingdom.
In his leadership, the king is prayed to prioritize humanity. He favors justice and hates wickedness. His wisdom and discretion in leading was based on the realization that God alone was the basis of all his decisions. His throne was not because of his own greatness but because God entrusted it to him.
Friends of the Bible, the picture of the leader revealed in the psalmist is our ideal picture of the leaders around us. At the same time, if we are entrusted to be a leader anywhere then carry out our roles and responsibilities with the fear of God. The position and all the privileges that come with being a leader must be realized as belonging to God alone. Thus one will lead/govern not by his/her lust but in the awareness of full accountability to Allah.
