Sometimes in life things happen that we didn't intend and didn't foresee. Some of these events are the consequences of our actions, while others are completely unpredictable. In these situations of distress, we finally realize that only God can restore and help us.

In this part of our reading, the psalmist shows people who suffer because of their choices and the sins they commit. In this situation, a believer should turn to God and cry out with all his heart. God will hear the cry and deliver His people. It is like a liberator who breaks the iron shackles of a captive.

He does this because ultimately God does not want to destroy His people but rather process them through wisdom and upbringing.

Verses 23-30 are metaphors for chaos, uncertainty and a life in bondage to powers beyond human imagination. The psalmist explains this by using the metaphor of the sea. However, in all these uncertainties, God is still present and helpful as long as we call out to Him with all our heart and hope in Him.

Friends of the Bible, today we are reaffirmed of the power and wisdom of God that overcomes all things. He is in control of everything including situations and events that we don't even want to happen in our lives. So let us live by obeying His word. That is the source of our hope in living this life.
