“Sense of crisis” is a term that describes a sensitivity, vigilance and readiness in the face of difficult situations, emergencies or impending danger. By possessing this sensitivity, a person can respond appropriately and make the necessary preparations to face the approaching danger. Unfortunately, not all of us possess a good ‘sense of crisis’. In the context of struggles and challenges to come, or other situations that test our resolve. 

This is where the rhetoric of chapter 6 becomes particularly intriguing. God will bring judgement upon Judah, but what He is doing is not an act of destruction but rather an act of discipline and instruction. Therefore, through His prophet, God reveals everything to Judah. They have committed abominations in God’s sight. God plainly tells Judah that the enemy will soon attack. God wishes to make all this known, yet it seems the people no longer care and are as though unwilling to listen or open their ears (v. 10). 

Yet God had made it clear that Israel would face judgement because of their stubbornness. They had strayed from the path God had shown them. So turn back swiftly and return to a close and genuine covenant with Him. Unfortunately, the nation has lost its sense of crisis and has chosen to ignore the danger that is drawing ever closer.

Let us reflect a little on our lives. Perhaps Allah has given us various signs and guidance so that we may re-examine our lives. Have we been walking in accordance with His will, or have we rebelled against His commands? At times, in our arrogance, we often choose to ignore His commands and warnings and continue to follow our own desires. Turn back to Allah and obey His commands at all times.
