LAI Digital Literacy, Medan Bible Week Day 2
Till now, LAI is in the process of promoting Digital Literacy. This is quite important considering that the digital era is constantly evolving, and a good understanding is needed to process the impacts that may occur related to the rampant reception of information in this era.
Therefore, LAI takes every opportunity to continue this learning process. During Medan 2024 Bible Week, LAI's Digital Literacy activities were also carried out. This time, in collaboration with one of the well-known creators, Soni Mongan or familiarly called Ammho. Bang Ammho himself is one of the people who has been struggling and influential in Siberkreasi which is directly affiliated with the Ministry of Communication and Information. He is one of several creators who received a blue tick for his impactful content on social media.
The Digital Literacy Seminar themed 'Creating in the Digital World' received quite a lot of enthusiasm from LAI's social media followers. The seminar on creating digital content was also warmly welcomed by millennials and generation z children in Medan and surrounding areas. It can be seen from the beginning of the announcement of the publication of this activity through the implementation of the competition, the participants were so excited and showed their interest in this event. The publication of the competition was announced on August 1 with a submission deadline of September 1. Candidates were expected to create a 90-second short video with the theme 'I Love the Bible'. The announcement of this competition also informs this Digital Literacy activity.
Since an hour before the event began, almost a third of the room was filled with prospective seminar participants. The event was held in the 5th floor worship room of Gloria Indonesian Methodist Church (GMI).
Starting at 3 p.m., about 300 people filled the seminar room. The event went smoothly. Laughter and expressions of admiration as well as laughter erupted from the faces of the Seminar participants. It seemed that Ammho was good enough to present the material so that it generated diverse responses and discussions.
In his material delivery session, Ammho said that there are many things that must be considered in creating content on social media. There are several important aspects, one of which is content ethics. "Don't just go viral! We must also pay attention to the message that will be conveyed through our content," Ammho explained. He also said that hoaxes are one of the most crucial things to pay attention to.
Ammho stated that in this digital era, it should be easier for young people to convey Christian values based on the Word of God. "Our social media should not just be empty or display pictures only! Let's make a simple video that can convey the Word of God!", Ammho reiterated this principle, as he taught many technical aspects such as conceptualizing, scripting, shooting, sound quality, and others.
On this occasion LAI also invited young participants to fill out a survey on the importance of reading the Bible. This survey will be the basis for LAI to create a new digital program that will facilitate young people to read and explore the Word of God.
After about 3 hours, the event came to an end. LAI announced the winners of the short video competition. Five talented young people won the short video competition that had started in early August.
Finally, the event was over. But the enthusiasm for contenting God's Word on social media did not fade. The spirit of work began to ignite even though it was still in the learning and guessing stage.
