Equipping Childcare Workers to Teach Generation Alpha in the Digital Age

Sunday School Teachers’ Workshop:

JAKARTA – The Indonesian Bible Society (LAI) organised a Sunday School Teachers’ Workshop as part of Bible Prayer Month (BDA) on Saturday, 10 October 2026. The event, held at the Bible Centre Building (GPA), centred on the theme “Teaching Generation Alpha: Conveying God’s Word to Children in the Digital Age”. This training serves as a platform to equip children’s ministry workers so that they are better prepared to convey God’s Word in a relevant, creative and meaningful way amidst the development of digital technology.

Workshop this time features Rev. Brahmana Duta Dewa, S.Si. (Theol.) as the training speaker. Participants in the workshop were invited to understand the characteristics of Generation Alpha, as well as the challenges and opportunities in children’s ministry in a world that is becoming increasingly intertwined with digital technology.

A total of 152 participants have registered to take part in this workshop. Of this number, 101 participants attended in person, whilst 17 participants took part online. Consequently, a total of 118 participants were recorded across both channels, demonstrating the enthusiasm of children’s ministry workers to continue learning and equipping themselves for Sunday School ministry.

In the context of changing times, Sunday School ministry faces its own unique challenges. Generation Alpha children are growing up in an environment familiar with gadgets, the internet and various forms of digital content. This situation encourages Sunday School teachers to continually develop teaching approaches that meet the needs of today’s children, without losing sight of the core message of God’s Word.

Through this workshop, participants are given the opportunity to broaden their horizons and equip themselves to share God’s Word with children. Creativity in teaching must go hand in hand with a sound understanding of the Bible, so that the message of God’s Word not only captures the children’s attention but also helps them to come to know God’s love and grow in their faith.

The event went smoothly and successfully. Praise God, the entire programme went off without a hitch, providing a valuable opportunity for participants to learn, share experiences and strengthen their commitment to children’s ministry.

This Sunday School Teachers’ Workshop forms part of LAI’s efforts to equip church ministers to present God’s Word to people of all generations. Through training that is relevant to the changing times, it is hoped that Sunday School teachers will be better equipped to guide children in coming to know, understand and live out God’s Word in their daily lives.

In line with LAI’s vision, “God’s Word Reaches All Generations,” this initiative emphasises the importance of equipping children’s ministry workers so that God’s Word may continue to be conveyed faithfully, creatively, and meaningfully to Generation Alpha in the digital age.(sochi)
