The feeling of helplessness is a very unpleasant condition. We find it difficult to see a way out of the situation. That helplessness in modern times occurs due to various factors. Whether it is a struggle due to economic situations, relationships, or even something conditioned by outsiders. If you don't immediately find a ray of hope from God, it will be difficult for anyone to survive in that situation. As Christians, we know that hope is only found when we look to God, the Creator of the Universe.
The helplessness of man is expressed by the psalmist in verse 5, "I am counted as one who has gone down to the grave." References to death or the world of the dead appear in several parts of the chapter. Textually we can see in several passages in the Bible that when there is a reference in this direction, it is actually to describe a seemingly unparalleled crush and distress. The psalmist also felt that there was a role for God in his suffering. But it is precisely because of this that the psalmist realizes that only to God can he complain and pour out all the pain he feels.
The psalmist's pain is part of the reality of human life that we often experience but rarely admit to honestly. We are busy making excuses and refusing to acknowledge our real condition. Expressing our pain honestly is not a sign that we are giving up, but rather we want to rekindle the seeds of hope because for the believer, the cry is directed to God alone. A believer knows that his life is always in tension between the reality that is sometimes full of suffering and the guidance of God's love that expresses hope. Like the psalmist in our reading this time who first based his heart cry with the following faith belief: "O LORD, the God who saves me, by day I cry out; by night I am still before you." Doesn't this mean that we are still walking in the light of His hope? So no matter how tough the struggles we are going through right now, keep going in the light of His hope. The occasional cry for help is not a sin, but a deep cry for help based on unwavering faith in the Creator.
