We often feel we have complete control over our lives. We believe we can predict and fully master everything. It is as though we are mapping out the future with a well-thought-out plan, relying on logic and confident that everything has been taken care of. There is nothing wrong with preparing everything with a well-thought-out plan. However, we must realise that the full sovereignty over all plans and control of life belongs to God alone. 

Our reading today offers both a stark warning and a firm hope for our journey of faith. The nation of Judah fell into ruin not because of a lack of military capability, but because of the stubbornness of its leaders and people. They did not seek the Lord and relied on their own wisdom (v. 21). It was only when disaster struck that they realised just how limited human beings truly are. 

The prophet Jeremiah reminds us that, ultimately, human beings have no power to determine their own path. Therefore, all we can do is surrender to Him, even when He teaches and disciplines us. Indeed, everything is done by the Lord for His own good. Humility before Him is essential for living steadfastly in accordance with His will and His Word. 

Dear Bible Friends, perhaps at this very moment things are happening that are beyond our power and control. They may even be far from what we had hoped for. Do not be anxious or worried, for God works all things for our good. He always intends to instruct and teach us through every event. Only God is the sovereign figure in our lives.
